Sonĝoj Fontoj (sources/springs of dreams) is a multimedia performance piece by composer and multidisciplinary artist Marisol Jiménez worked in collaboration with Klaus Kürvers and Biliana Voutchkova. The piece features violin, prepared contrabass, various sound sculptures build by the composer and video installation.
Marisol Jiménez
Marisol Jiménez is a composer and multidisciplinary artist from Guadalajara, Mexico. Her output includes numerous instrumental and electro-acoustic works, as well as sound & mixed media installations and collaborations with visual artists. As she has a deep fascination with the tactile process of creating sound, most of her electronic and mixed media works involve self-made instruments, found objects, and collected sound materials from her own performances, improvisations and field recordings. She completed a masters degree at Mills College and doctoral studies at Stanford University. Her teachers have included Pauline Oliveros, Alvin Curran, Brian Ferneyhough, Mark Applebaum, Chris Chafe, Erik Ulman and Josh Levine. She is a founder and artistic director of the ARTSON Festival for Contemporary music that takes place in her native city. Her music has been featured at various festivals and events including Ultraschall Festival für Neue Musik (2008), Sommerakademie Schloss Solitude (2009), Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt (2010), Ensemble Akademie (2007), and Radar Festival (2007) by leading interpreters of contemporary music such as the Arditti String Quartet, Ensemble Surplus, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Recherche, International Contemporary Ensemble, the Freiburger Barockorchester, Ensemble Octandre, SfSound, El Perro Andaluz among others.
Klaus Kürvers
Klaus Kürvers – born 1950 in Essen (Germany), doublebass studies 1964-68 among others with Peter Trunk. During the late sixties member of the Essen Youth Symphony Orchestra and also at the same time of different amateur Jazz groups ("Free Jazz" since 1967); 1969-71 in Cologne with the Jazz-Rock-Group "Eiliff" (w/Rainer Brüninghaus). Interupted 1971-2006 his public music activities for his studies and professional scientific career as an architect and cultural historian in Berlin. Since 2006 resumption of his musical activities as part of the Berlin improvisers' scene. Performing bassist again since 2009 – on one hand with working groups like "Sequoia" (a doublebass quartet with Antonio Borghini, Meinrad Kneer and Miles Perkin), "ZENK!" (with Nikolaus Neuser, Zeger Vandenbussche, Els Vandeweyer), "Pfff..." (with Gerhard Uebele, Tristan Honsinger); on the other hand concerts in changing combinations, besides others with Anat Cohavi, Tobias Delius, Edoardo Marraffa, Lothar Ohlmeier, Simon Rose, Frank Paul Schubert; Liz Allbee, Axel Dörner, Paul Hubweber, Hilary Jeffery, Matthias Müller; Wolfgang Seidel, Mikaele Pellegrino, Andreas Paolo Perger; Frantz Loriot, John Rose, Andrea Sanzvela, Gerhard Uebele; Ute Wassermann, Mat Pogo; Jürg Bariletti, Julie Sassoon, Chino Shuichi; Tristan Honsinger, Hui-Chun Lin, Hugues Vincent; Dominic Duboc, Thomas Helton, Mike Majkowski, Pascal Niggenkemper, Clayton Thomas, Maresuke Okamoto; Julian Bonequi, Rudi Fischerlehner, Alex Huber, Yorgos Dimitriadis, Michael Kersting, Willi Kellers...
Biliana Voutchkova
Biliana Voutchkova studied classical violin and during her college years she started her involvement with the contemporary and improvised music scene. A risk taker approaching contemporary classical repertoire with the same inspiration and freedom characteristic of her forceful improvisations. She is involved in interaction with dancers, improvisers, composers, visual artists and others eager to search into the unknown, among those Frances-Marie Uitti, Matthias Bauer, Chiyoko Szlavnics, Robin Hayward, Michael Thieke, Axel Dörner, Louise Wagner. collaborates with Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, the Splitter Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, Insomnio, Mozaik, Das Neue Ensemble Hannover, MusikFabrik, Sasha Waltz & Guests, Oper Dynamo West. She has appeared in festivals and concert series in Europe, USA and Japan.
