EXHIBITION: paintings by LEOPOLD LANDRICHTER
image: Leopold Landrichter
Anthea Caddy lives and works in Berlin and Melbourne. Her practice explores the spatio-temporal aspects of sound and architecture, applying these to audio works that manipulate and distort perceptions of time, space and experience.
Ned Collette is a Melbourne-born singer, instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer now based in Berlin. He was a member of Melbourne instrumental band City City City and has since then recorded five albums, either as solo productions or with his band, Wirewalker.
Peter Cusack is a musician, field recordist and sound artist with a long interest in the sonic environment. He initiated the "Favourite Sounds Project" that explores what people find positive about their everyday soundscapes. His project "Sounds From Dangerous Places" examines soundscapes at sites of major environmental damage. He lectures on "Sound Arts & Design" at the University of the Arts, London and was DAAD artist-in-residence in Berlin during 2011/12.
Shelley Hirsch is an award winning, critically acclaimed vocalist, composer, and storyteller whose mostly solo compositions, staged multimedia works, improvisations, radio plays, installations and collaborations have been produced and presented in concert halls, clubs, festivals, theaters, museums, galleries and on radio, film and television on 5 continents. She can be heard on 70 recordings. Her most recent releases are "Where Were You Then?" a suite of songs and stories in collaboration with Swiss composer keyboard player Simon Ho; and improvised music with guitarist Uchihashi Kasuhisa "Duets" and "Duets 10 Years After".
Uchihashi Kazuhisa is a remarkable guitarist involved in free improvisation music. Born in 1959 in Osaka, Uchihashi began to play the guitar at age 12, playing in various rock bands, though he later studied jazz music. In 1988 he joined the band the First Edition, and in 1990 formed the band Altered States. He was also a member of Otomo Yoshihide's Ground Zero from 1994 to 1997. Uchihashi also plays daxophone, and in addition to his role as a free improviser, Uchihashi has been the musical director for Osaka theatre group Ishinha, has held improvisation workshops (a project known as New Music Action) in various cities in Japan, London, Oslo, and Vienna.
Tristan Honsinger is a cello player active in free jazz and free improvisation. He is perhaps best known for his long-running collaboration with free jazz pianist Cecil Taylor and guitarist Derek Bailey.
Leopold studied painting in university in Vienna and moved to Berlin 9 years ago. In his paintings he often use lines to fix the form in something like a skeletal structure. This gives him a frame where he sets the colours. With the colours he starts a process which is based on repetition, expansion and improvisation. He is interested in activities inside the picture, how colour and form are related and affect each other. The pictures do not explain or describe anything. They stay somewhere between and are more about space, activity, dynamics or visual music.
Violonist, composer and poet Saara Wallraf and composer, pianist and mask maker Liz Kosack collaborate in "Ravenact" in finding ways to work between music, text and visual elements. Based on Saara's poetry they compose, explore the "dimensions of dialogue" and invite other collaborative artists.
Erkki Veltheim is a musician and interdisciplinary artist. He has performed with ensembles such as Australian Art Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Elision and Ensemble Modern, and has also featured as a soloist with London Sinfonietta and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
Saara Wallraf is a violonist, composer, poet and curator and lives and works in Berlin. She studied classical violin at the age of four and involved in Improvisation, Contemporary Music and Jazz and works in different projects in Berlin, Cologne, Kopenhagen and performed in Canada, Senegal, New York, Philadelphia, Indiana, Netherlands...
